I found this Tin Man at the Oz Museum in Wamego, KS

I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to trade short sleeves for sweaters. The summer’s heat here in central Kentucky has worn out its welcome with me.

My husband recently retired, and to celebrate we embarked on an epic 3-week journey across the country. If you follow me on Facebook (where I spend way too much time) you read our daily travel log as we visited some amazing places. Some you are familiar with and some you may not have ever heard of. For instance, we saw the world’s biggest ball of twine in Cauker City, Kansas and then spent a great couple of hours in the Oz Museum in Wamego KS. We soaked in natural hot springs in Glenwood Springs, CO, hiked the south rim of the Grand Canyon, saw the gigantic 2,200-year-old Redwood in Sequoia National Park, stood on the corner in Winslow, AZ (and sang the Eagles song, naturally!), caught Shin Lim’s magic show in Las Vegas, and hung out with wild burrows in Oatman, AZ. (I had to put my foot down when Brad wanted to kidnap one and bring him back to the farm!) Along the way we spent time visiting family and friends we don’t see nearly often enough.

Want to know the best thing about the trip? We had no plans. No agenda. No timetable. We got up every morning and let the road lead us. It was … freeing. If you have the opportunity to make a similar trip, take it! You won’t be sorry.

Just a few pictures from the hundreds we took on our epic cross-country journey!

Some Stories Deserve an Encore

A reader favorite has a facelift!
Welcome to Goose Creek, where the residents are friendly, the characters are colorful, and little things have a way of getting out of hand.
I’m excited to announce the release of the second edition of The Most Famous Illegal Goose Creek Parade—now sporting a brand-new cover! This second edition gives readers a fresh chance to get lost in the story that Library Journal awarded a starred review and selected as their top pick of the month. They said it’s “an engaging story that is at times laugh-out-loud funny.” Join Al, Millie, Violet and the rest of the Goose Creek gang as they try not to take sides in a town-wide fracas that ends in a ‘parade’ that was never supposed to happen.
Whether you’ve read the book before or are discovering it for the first time, I hope you’ll enjoy this new edition as much as I loved bringing it to life.
The second edition of The Most Famous Illegal Goose Creek Parade is available now in both paperback and hardcover. Ask for it at your favorite local bookstore or order from an online bookseller. I love writing. Really I do! But writing can be a lonely business at times, and authors don’t get a lot of feedback on their work. If you’ve enjoyed a book, won’t you take a moment to send a quick email to the author and tell them? I know I would love to hear from you about my books, or anything else you want to share with me. Feel free to reply to this email or reach out to me through the Contact page of my website.
