Book Review – Thicker than Blood

Thicker than Blood
C. J. Darlington

Christy is a woman tormented by her own wrong choices. She’s been trying to numb the pain with alcohol, even though she knows that’s what killed her parents and left her orphaned. She has hidden from her sister for fifteen lonely years, but when a rare book goes missing from the used bookstore where she works, Christy loses her job. She’s being framed, but who will believe her with a past like hers? The thief isn’t content to stop with throwing the blame on her – soon Christy realizes that her life is in danger. She has no choice but to hide, and nowhere to go but to her sister, May.

This is C.J. Darlington’s debut novel, and there’s no question why this book won the 2008 Christian Writers Guild Operation First Novel Contest. The writing is smooth, the characters compelling, and the plot satisfyingly well-paced. Thicker than Blood has a little bit of everything – broken relationships that need to be healed, self-recrimination, danger, suspense, and above all, the power of love that can heal even the deepest wound. I can’t wait to see what Darlington comes up with next!

The author has a great book video on her website, so be sure to click over and watch it at http://www.cjdarlington.com/.
